The Wine Garden of England Still Case

Selecting the ripest fruit from certain parcels of land within the estates, our winemakers have gradually perfected their still wines over time.  We are so proud to offer this selection of the still wines that reflect the personality of each producer.  Bacchus, Ortega and Dornfelder have always loved our cool climate, and now we are producing some beautiful Chardonnays and Pinots.  This case is a perfect introduction to the talents of our Kent winemakers.

Balfour Springfield Chardonnay 2018

This fabulous Chardonnay from the superb 2018 vintage is clean and bright with a long finish, displaying the mineral notes of lime and salt. Fermented in cool stainless steel, it is then partly aged in French and American Oak to add depth and complexity to the flavour, resulting in an intense yet elegant wine.

Biddenden Gribble Bridge Rosé 2021

A wonderful example of an English rosé from Kent’s oldest vineyard, always a winner at tastings. A full, well-balanced, medium-dry wine. Light pink in colour and produced with Dornfelder and Ortega grapes, refreshingly full of flavour with a hint of English raspberry and strawberry. Complements spiced dishes and summer BBQs well.

Biddenden Ortega 2021

Biddenden’s signature variety, accounting for 50% of the vineyard, Ortega is an off dry, full-fruit white wine.  Aromatic on the nose, displaying appealing fresh aromas of green apple, grapefruit, cut grass and flora, whilst the palate is medium bodied, crisp, characterful and deliciously fruity. Excellent served as an aperitif, this refreshing white would also pair well with lightly spiced dishes and simple seafood.

Chapel Down Bacchus 2021

Bacchus is widely becoming known as England’s leading still wine variety and is Chapel Down’s best selling white wine. This highly aromatic wine is crisp and refreshing with an abundance of gooseberry and elderflower on the nose.  The palate has fresh flavours of lime and honeysuckle which lead to a crisp finish.  An ideal alternative to Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.

Simpsons Rabbit Hole Pinot Noir 2020

Exuding a true sense of place, this single vineyard, still Pinot Noir is created from fruit specifically selected for its maturity and concentration. This purple-hued wine displays dark cherry and smoky oak aromas, with hints of mocha. The elegant tannins are complimented by tangy, black fruit flavours and undertones of freshly ground coffee.

Westwell Ortega 2021

Fermented in stainless steel at slightly lower temperatures yields precise floral aromas of honeysuckle, grapefruit and peach.  Notes of grapefruit, guava and melon on the nose, easing to crisp palate of lemon, peach and white pepper with a good length. Pairs perfectly with white meats and shellfish, or enjoyed on its own!

A traditional method, multi-vintage, multi-site wine, Leslie’s Reserve Rosé allows our winemakers to explore Kent’s wonderful and varied terroir. A blend of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier, Leslie’s Reserve is dry yet bursting with Kentish raspberries and wild strawberries This summery red fruit balances beautifully with our signature Balfour crispness.

Chapel Down Three Graces 2017

Complex aromas of ripe apple, fresh red berries and toasted brioche are followed by a rich palate and generous finish.  Great as an aperitif or an ideal accompaniment to grilled fish or risotto.  The fruit is sourced from vineyards in Kent and East Sussex, grown on chalk and clay soils.  A portion of the wine is from reserve, matured in oak barrels which adds depth and complexity to the palate.  Maturation on fine lees in tank for six months before bottling and a minimum of three years of further ageing on lees in the bottle.

Gusbourne Blanc de Blancs 2016

Gusbourne have built a reputation for quality and style and the Blanc de Blancs most certainly reflects this. Pale golden in colour, with a fine mousse. The nose is full of ripe citrus, pink grapefruit and pear, with white floral notes. On the palate, the wine shows generous fruit flavours, highlighting ripe melon, nectarine and crunchy green apple with a flinty, saline minerality.  Toasted brioche, shortbread and hazelnut notes build layers of complexity, adding to an elegance and energy that combine to create a beautiful example of Blanc de Blancs. The grapes were grown on a south facing vineyard near Appledore.

Simpsons Chalklands Classic Cuvée

Simpsons are celebrating their tenth anniversary with the launch of the premier non-vintage Chalklands Classic Cuvée.  Three exceptional vintages were specially selected to create this blend, which was crafted in the Great British Classic Method.  Since the first Chalklands release in 2019, this elegant Simpsons' style has become a sparkling sensation with wine lovers, garnering many accolades and awards. The palate reflects the nose with yellow apple, umami, toasted bread and roasted nuts with a lick of acidity keeping it fresh and vibrant. Balanced, long and dry.

Squerryes Vintage Brut Reserve 2017

Squerryes are nestled just below London on the Kent/Surrey border and are the most northern of the vineyards of the Wine Garden of England. Specialising in sparkling wines, they have built a reputation for producing exceeding high quality fizz which bring joy. This is their signature wine. It has a fine, persistent mousse and a delightful nose of fresh apples, white peaches and a twist of grapefruit with jasmine floral notes. On the palate it is bursting with ripe red apples and peaches with an underlying creamy richness from the Pinot-dominated blend, and the classic Squerryes long fresh finish. A real crowd pleaser.

Westwell Pelegrim NV

The trademark wine from our newest member, Westwell Wines.  The Pelegrim NV is a traditional bottle-fermented sparkling wine that is made from Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay with reserve wines from previous vintages to give further complexity and a consistent extra dry non-vintage style.
