An intimate experience at a small, innovative winery, where a husband & wife team combine savoir-faire with fun, producing small quantities of award-winning, estate-grown wines and boasting the world’s only winery helter-skelter slide
Simpsons' Wine Estate was established in 2012 by husband and wife team, Charles and Ruth Simpson in Barham, Kent, amid the pristine beauty of the Elham Valley – an unspoilt seam in the North Downs where the contours of the land, the climate and the soil could scarcely be improved upon for viticulture.
We have been making award-winning wines at our stunning, southern French winery, since 2002. In 2012, attracted by the quality of the terroir and the opportunity to become part of what has become one of the most dynamic wine producing regions of the world, we brought our expertise and savoir-faire back to the UK, establishing Simpsons’ Wine Estate in Barham, with an aspiration to create the finest quality English wines.
With 30 hectares of vineyards now established on the iconic chalk terroir of the North Downs and a state-of-the-art winery situated minutes from the vines, we saw our first harvest in 2016. Our very international and quality-focused team, have gained experience all over the world and have come from a very diverse range of work environments. Our combined expertise and belief in this exciting area is an inspirational formula.

Returning to our state-of-the-art winery, you will then hear about the fascinating wine-making process from the comfortable vantage point of The Glass House Tasting Room, sampling a selection of our award-winning wines paired with Kentish canapés supplied by one of our local partners. The visit ends of course with an exhilarating ride down our ‘Fruit Chute’ helter-skelter slide!
The flawless combination of savoir-faire, perfect vineyard sites, meticulous farming and impeccable winemaking has allowed us to create an impressively diverse range of still and sparkling wines at Simpsons Wine Estate. Our outstanding sparkling wines are created using the Great British Classic Method, maturing on lees for between 15 months and 4 years to achieve peak complexity. And with a strong emphasis on provenance and place, our exceptional still wines are made from carefully chosen, still wine clones and are designed to challenge the perception of this category both nationally and internationally.
