Westwell is a family-owned estate producing handcrafted premium sparkling and still wines made exclusively from fruit grown on our site

About us

Hello from Westwell - we’re a small, family founded, family run estate winery dedicated to making delicious, drinkable wines that express the individuality of our beautiful Kent terroir.

Located in the heart of the English countryside, Westwell is known for its experimental winemaking, strong visual identity and a roster of vibrant community events.

We're located just beneath the Pilgrims Way on the North Downs; a route used for centuries by Pilgrims travelling to Canterbury.

We’re committed to creating authentic wines which tell the story of our land. We strive to make our range of wines with as little intervention as possible, utilising wild yeasts and letting the fruit speak for itself. Small scale, on-site production means we can be present at every stage: from grape to glass. Westwell’s winemaker Adrian Pike's dedication to his craft has earned him a reputation as one of England's most exciting and innovative winemakers.

Art, land and creativity is at the heart of everything we do at Westwell. Adrian’s wife Galia Pike creates everything from the ultra-detailed illustrations on the wine labels featuring drawings of vine wood under microscope, mapped-out tractor trails and abstracted details from the winemaking process to the photography, graphic design and metre-wide paintings displayed on the cellar door walls. Her work reflects the couple’s previous incarnations in the music industry; capturing the independent spirit of the vineyard and its experimental approach to winemaking.

We think not just in terms of the next vintage but the next generations. We want to be producing wine at our site for many years to come and so sustainability is key to our practise. We believe that small, simple, acts cumulatively make a big difference – from supporting and working with local businesses, recycling and composting to finding creative ways of reusing our waste and byproducts including collaborations with brewers, glassmakers and local skincare brand Pelegrims who use Westwell’s vine sap and post-harvest grape skins to create their award-winning range.

The future for Westwell is bright: we anticipate increased production in the coming years as newer plantings become productive. We’ll continue to experiment and explore - minimising intervention at every step.

Our philosophy is simple: plant well, respect the soil and make great, honest wines from brilliant fruit.

We’re also known for a roster of engaging events. We’re dedicated to creating a welcoming space for our community, regularly repurposing our winery space; usually with limited resources! Throughout the year, we host a wide variety of happenings, including creative workshops with Kentish artists, cinema screenings in the vines, theatre productions, pizza nights, local produce markets, supper clubs, weddings, wakes and even an annual dog show. These events provide a great opportunity for visitors to learn about our approach to winemaking and experience Westwell's unique atmosphere.

We make a wide range of wines, from traditional method sparklers to col fondos, pet nats, skin contacts, reds, whites, oranges and pinks to amphora-aged wines and collaborations with local brewers; naming many releases after old English and Kentish place names. We grow five different varieties: Pinot Meunier, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, a little Regent and our signature grape, Ortega.

Meet the wine makers

ADRIAN PIKE

How did you get started out in the industry?

After spending my life loving wine, I tasted a wine made by Will Davenport (Davenport Vineyard's Horsmonden Dry) at a restaurant in Soho. I was amazed that you could make such incredible wine in England. The next day, I phoned Will. He invited me to join Davenport for harvest that year and I was converted. I also studied at Plumpton whilst working with Will.
