A unique opportunity to see behind the scenes of a small, independent winery where a couple of ex-music industry high-fliers are challenging the conventions of the wine industry with their innovative style.

Westwell is a family-owned estate producing handcrafted premium sparkling and still wines made exclusively from fruit grown on our site

About us

Located just beneath the Pilgrims Way on the North Downs in Kent; a route used for centuries by Pilgrims travelling to Canterbury,  Westwell boasts an ideal mix of climate, aspect and soil. There are six classified soil geologies and the varieties have been planted with these in mind. We grow five different varieties on our 40 acre estate - Pinot Meunier, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, a little Regent and our signature grape, Ortega.

As winemakers, we love to experiment - both in how we farm the land and in how we create our award-winning wines. We are totally transparent about our sustainable approach, minimising the use of herbicides, and doing a lot of the work manually, keeping busy at every phase in a vine’s cycle - carefully monitoring, thinking ahead and responding to the growing conditions. Our obsessive focus on the total cultivation process ensures we end up with wines of which we're very proud, wines that have won multiple national and international awards - including IWC Best English Sparkling Wine Trophy and a Gold Sommelier Wine Award.

Our wine garden tour

'Vineyard Tour & Tasting'

Join a guided tour around the estate and learn about our approach to sustainable viticulture and winemaking. Our tours are always led by the people who grow the grapes and make the wine. In the spring and summer, the tour takes in all of our 51,000 vines as well as a visit to our wildflower meadow on the highest part of the vineyard (which on a good day enjoys stunning views to the sea). The tour involves a walk in the vineyard on uneven ground so bring suitable footwear and clothing for your trip. For our winter tours, we bring visitors inside to the winery to taste through this vintage’s wines as they progress - direct from tank. Following tours, visitors will have the opportunity to taste five of our wines in a tutored tasting in our tasting room.

Explore our range of award-winning sparkling and still wines....
Sparkling: Our vintage and NV wines are focussed on full, rich wines with long lees ageing.
Still: We love Ortega! We make a straightforward dry white with it, a skin contact with three weeks fermentation on skins, an Amphora fermented and aged orange wine that has skin contact for 9 months, plus a rosé which we co-ferment with Regent.
We take the chance to experiment every harvest, so far adding two Pet Nats - ‘Petulant Nature’ and ’Naturally Petulant", a Field Blend made using Pinot Noir and Chardonnay and ‘Wootton Top” - a Col Fondo.
Having worked on countless record sleeves, we wanted our labels to have a similarly arresting appeal so that people would want to pick them off a shelf. Focussing the artwork on details from the viticultural and winemaking practices, each label’s design is hand drawn in-house by Galia.

Meet the wine makers

ADRIAN PIKE

How did you get started out in the industry?

After spending my life loving wine, I tasted a wine made by Will Davenport (Davenport Vineyard's Horsmonden Dry) at a restaurant in Soho. I was amazed that you could make such incredible wine in England. The next day, I phoned Will. He invited me to join Davenport for harvest that year and I was converted. I also studied at Plumpton whilst working with Will.
