The Wine Garden of England at the Kent County Show
Is your July looking a little quiet? If so, then we are about to spice up your summer as the Wine Garden of England vineyards are coming to the Kent County Show. So, while you sip some of our award-winning Kentish wines you’ll be able to experience all the wonders of the show. For those of you who have never experienced the show before, you’re in for a treat as a county show is like no other. It’s a showcase event for farming, countryside and rural life, set across three days in July (5th, 6th and 7th). You can expect animal and food showcases, fun competitions, craft workshops, cookery demonstrations, live music and of course a visit from our wine partners.
I’ve Got A Brand New Combine Harvester
Embrace your inner McDonald Farmer and head over to the agricultural area of the show. You’ll turn into a country bumpkin at the livestock competitions where you’ll be cheering on your favourite sheep, you’ll dream of getting a new set of wheels at the modern machinery displays, and you’ll learn more about where your food comes from at the cattle, sheep and poultry shows. A visit to the wool shed will make you wool savvy as you learn about the different material varieties. You can also have a feel and discover your new found favourites.
Food Glorious Food
Now, one of the best things about a county show is the food and drink and since we are in the Garden of England that also happens to be the Wine Garden of England too, you can look forward to the very best of wine and food around. We’re not just talking a few burger vans with the occasional ice cream truck pulled up, we’re talking a whole tent dedicated to just cheese and wine, a tent for sweet honey and beekeeping tips, a show dedicated to juicy fruits and a food hall selling the very best of locally sourced foods.
Blame it on the Boogie
Picture this, you’re sat sipping a delicious glass of English Sparkling Wine from the Wine Garden of England, the sun is shining and sweet music is playing. Sounds dreamy right? Well, be prepared as your dreams are about to come true as local band favourites will be attending the show. On Friday you can look forward to the Faversham Mission Brass Band and the Casablanca steps who will combine their musical and vocal talents. Saturday brings the Kent Police Band and The Biggin Hillbillies. And, lastly, Sunday will bring the Rock Choir and Isle of Sheppey St John Ambulance Band. Get ready to get those toes tapping.
Shop Til’ You Drop
For the shopaholics among us, you’re in for a real treat as there are over 400 retail stands where you can get your hands on a wide range of goodies from clothes to food, ales to jewellery and even a garden bench! Venture over to the ‘Keep it Local Craft Marquee’ where you’ll be able to purchase amazing crafts like pottery, woodwork and leatherwork. The ‘Shop For Something Different’ Marquee offers a slightly different vibe as you can grab yourself some unique gifts and accessories to brighten up your home décor. Produced in Kent will be back and offers a variety of handcrafted gifts and treats all, you guessed it, made in Kent.
Country, Game and Canine
This is where the true fun of the fair is unleashed as the classic English county fair games begin. This year you’ll witness the Husqvarna UK Pole Climbing Championship where competitors will scale up the 25m pole to get to the top in the quickest time. If you’re a fan of pooches you’ll love the parade of beagles, K9 Aqua Sports, the Sheep Dog and Duck displays, terrier racing and gamegoer gundogs. It’s definitely a fair with a difference!
If you’ve got green fingers this is the place for you as you can see the best in show of all things garden related. See the perfect carrot and strawberry, the very best of potted plants and cacti, and the most magnificent flower arrangements. If you need to take some weight off of your feet a visit to the Garden Café will be a delight as you can listen to talks and watch demonstrations whilst you tuck into some foodie favourites.
