The Top Wine Garden of England Events for 2019
As we progress through 2019 there is no need to ‘wine’ down as the season for English Sparkly is soon upon us. If your year is looking a little quiet, we’ll add some fizz as it’s time to replace the beer goggles with wine glasses as we go through the top wine events going on in the Wine Garden of England this year. From festivals in stunning locations to tours and tastings at sunset, it’s all happening here in Kent. So grab a drink, give your glass a clink and let’s discover what the wine garden has to offer…
As the long summer evenings arrive you are invited to sip, explore and discover the mastery behind the creation of sparkling wine at Simpsons Wine Estate. Unearth the process of growing vines in the Roman Road vineyard before returning to the winery where you’ll learn about the fascinating wine-making process. After an insightful tour you will be invited up to the elegant Glass House Tasting Room to enjoy an exquisite tasting of Simpsons’ wines. To end the evening with a thrill, take a trip down the world’s first winery helter-skelter. Sessions are available from 7pm to 9:30pm on July 18th, August 22nd, September 12th and October 3rd.
To kick off the wine season, Gusbourne’s summer canopy is going up in the garden this April to welcome in the warm summer months. To mark the 2019 wine season Gusbourne are also releasing their new still rosé, which is only available for sale at The Nest, their beautiful onsite tasting room. This delectable English Rosé is made from a blend of estate-grown Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier, presented in a special individual gift box, making for an extra special gift or keepsake from your time at the estate.
You are invited to sip, share and discover the stories behind some of England's finest wines at the exclusive Wine Garden of England Festival at The Chapel Down Gin Works, London. Set in the iconic canal side Gin Works, a stone’s throw from Kings Cross and St Pancras international, this exclusive English Wine festival honours Kent’s top wine producers. For £35, guests will have the chance to meet the expert winemakers, sample up to 30 premium wines from Kent and learn more about our very own wine pioneers. Learn about the 300 year old Squerryes Estate and how they began making wine at the Gateway to the Wine Garden of England. A member of the Squerryes team will guide you through the vines to tell you about the grapes they grow, why they grow them and how they turn them into award-winning wine. The tour is accompanied by a tasting session of three of Squerryes Gold award-winning vintage wines. If you’re a Squerryes member you can look forward to wine masterclasses, and an exclusive preview of their new winery and much more happening in the coming year.
The Wine Garden of England Festival at Rochester Cathedral
Set in the hallowed halls of the stunning Rochester Cathedral, join the wine pioneers that have transformed Kent into the Wine Garden of England. From large-scale producers to boutique wineries, a diverse selection of English Wine production will be represented at this exciting wine festival, returning for its second year. Guests can take in the stunning architecture and sample 30 premium wines from Kent whilst learning about the pioneers that put Kent on the wine map. You’ll never be Bordeaux of it…
Venture to Tenterden in West Kent where you’ll find the winery and vineyard of England’s leading wine producer, Chapel Down. Here you can take part in the Great Minds Drink Alike experience where you’ll discover the stories of Chapel Down and have a two-hour portfolio tasting of their favourite drinks. Sample critically-acclaimed wines and beers from their Great Minds Drink Alike collection whilst finishing with a refreshing Gin & Tonic or Vodka and tonic. This amazing experience only costs £30 and can be booked on their website.
Visit the beautiful Hush Heath Estate with pristine vineyards, orchards, ancient woodland, wildlife, and of course delicious wine. Learn the secrets of English viticulture on one of Hush Heath’s full estate, winery and tutored tasting tours for just £25 per person. From Thursdays to Sundays between April and October you are invited to an expert-led tour around the estate and winery, followed by a guided tasting of six wines, ciders or beers in the stunning new tasting room “The View”.
Join one of Biddenden Vineyard’s open tours which take place on Saturdays from April to September. Upon arrival you’ll receive a warm welcome from the team with a complimentary tea, coffee or juice in the vineyard shop followed by an hour tour around the vineyard. You’ll be taken around the vineyard to learn about the rich heritage of Kent’s original vineyard, followed by a look around the winery and a tasting in the vineyard shop. Open tours are only £10 and can be booked on the website.
