Biddenden Vineyards is Kent’s original commercial vineyard having been established by the Barnes family in 1969.
Original plantings of 1/3 acre have now grown to 23 acres, producing award-winning white, red, rosé and sparkling English wines. The knowledge which the family has built up through experience over the years can be seen in the quality and consistency of the wines produced year on year. From the first Biddenden wine, which was bottled around 1972, production has now grown to about 80,000 bottles per year. All vine work on the estate is still carried out by hand, including pruning, canopy management and picking, with harvest running from mid to late September right through to November.
The famous Biddenden Cider is also produced at the vineyard - a strong, still cider produced from a blend of Kentish culinary and dessert apples, along with Biddenden Farm Pressed Apple & Pear juices.
The vineyard is open to visitors throughout the year and admission and tastings are free of charge. On Saturdays all year round and Wednesdays June to September the vineyard offers Charity Tours at £1 per person. These tours are for individuals, families and small groups of friends, giving visitors the chance to learn more about the history of the vineyard and more.
Visitors are able to pop in without the need to book and stroll around the vineyard’s self-guided tour route, or for a more personal experience why not book a private guided tour which includes tastings.
